Hello,
Sophia is the Wisdom of God. She may also be called the Archetypal Wisdom of the World.
In order to know your True Self you need to know Sophia. Why? Because Sophia is, and always has been, the spiritual Guardian of the human soul.
You can never acquire true self-knowledge without acquiring soul-knowledge. This is difficult in the modern world where the selfish power of egotism and the ultimately dehumanising power of the machine, join forces in suppressing all knowledge and awareness of the reality of the human soul.
The soul however is the key to knowing the SELF, and Sophia is the arch-angelic being of self-knowledge. She awakens the True Self in our soul.
The True Self is the Christ-Self.
As both the icon below and the verse of scripture under it indicate, Sophia is a spiritual or angelic Being of the very highest order.
‘THE LORD CREATED ME THE BEGINNING OF HIS WORKS.’ (Proverbs 8:22)
Once we lovingly accept into our hearts the spiritual reality of the Being of Sophia, she appears to us as the most powerful and beautiful of all of the nine-fold choirs of hierarchical or heavenly beings. And as a timely emissary of the divine and Holy Spirit, in the modern world she is awakening more and more human beings to knowledge of their True Self in Christ.
This modern world is stuffed to capacity with the products of materialistic and technical knowledge. It has led us to a dangerous impasse. Civilization will sink into a hellish abyss if human beings do not recognise that this mechanistic and technical information and knowledge must be balanced with WISDOM which is purely spiritual in nature.
Never in its long and troubled history has the world needed Wisdom more than it does now. And this is even truer of the Church. Therefore it needs to bring back Sophia.
FAITH AND KNOWLEDGE
Sophia adds the vitality of pure spiritual self-knowledge to the traditional faith of the Church. She is both the soul of the Church and the awakener of the true spirit-self of individual human beings.
THE CHRIST SELF
The True Self is the Christ-Self. It is the ‘Christ in me’ of which St. Paul speaks in Galatians 2:20. And it is also the ‘Christ in you’ of which Paul speaks in Colossians I.27.
In Sophia the True Self is conceived. Like a mother with child she brings the seed of our True Self to birth in Christ and nourishes it with the milk of divinely inspired self-knowledge. (1 John 3:9)
It is necessary for all believers in our time to supplement and nourish their faith with sophianic self–knowledge if true Christianity and the Church herself are to survive the coming apocalyptic times.
As the Russian Orthodox priest and theologian Fr. Sergei Bulgakov writes in his book: Sophia – Wisdom Of God: ‘The future of living Christianity rests with the sophianic interpretation of the world and of its destiny.’ *
